Who Needs a Car to the Beach?

by max on Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Beach vacations no longer require traffic tie-ups and delays, increasing gasoline prices, and expensive parking. At many beaches throughout the United States, you can leave your car at home – or a local park & ride lot, hotel or bed & breakfast – and walk or take free or inexpensive local transportation to the beach.

In his Car Free at the Beach, Steve Atlas describes 20 beaches where a car is not needed. They’re located along the Atlantic from Maine to Florida; the Great Lakes in New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan; the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, and on the Pacific coast in southern California, Oregon and Washington.
