1. I took the clever Brady Forrest’s advice and printed out a little-known (outside of techies) letter from the TSA, written to Senator John Warner, that outlines protocol for flying without ID. If the airport check-in staff or security stop you, this letter and requesting a supervisor is often enough to get you onboard.

The planned satellite-driven network, dubbed NextGen, would save fuel by ditching radar technology that is more than 50 years old and enabling GPS-equipped planes to fly the shortest route between two points: a straight line.
NextGen could save airlines at least 3.3 billion gallons of fuel a year — or more than $10 billion annually by 2025, based on today’s fuel prices, according to FAA projections obtained by The Associated Press.

Among the airlines surfers are calling out: Delta, Continental and United. Each charges a minimum of $115 for domestic flights, and up to $300 for international trips.

Some of us have invisible signs on our foreheads that say a variety of things like, “please give me the crappiest table in the restaurant” or “I know there are 1000 cars in your lot but would you please put in me another tan Ford Taurus”. I have read stories in magazines about people who get seated next to a long, lean, leggy supermodel on a flight and have a romantic connection leading to a lusty liaison in some alpine villa. Well the sign I have on my head is “if you weigh over 400 pounds and smell like micro waved herring, please sit next to me”. I have long given up hope of having the seat next to me empty, now I spend the boarding process in a series of prayers to various gods to please, please, please don’t let that be the guy or gal sitting next to me as I watch sasquatch walking down the aisle.

Since we posted about the Qbic low-cost design hotel earlier today, it would only be fair if we also mention another low-cost design hotel in Amsterdam.  The citizenM Hotel opened just a few weeks ago, and is located at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.  Like Qbic, the citizenM Hotel concept is about providing guests with great contemporary interiors at budget prices.  These hotels generally save on costs by having self check-in touch screen terminals and small rooms. Also like Qbic, citizenM has plans for locations all across Europe, and coincidentally already has a second location under construction in Amsterdam’s World Trade Centre district, which also just happens to be where the first Qbic hotel is located.  It will be entertaining to watch this rivalry unfold across Europe over the next few years.

TSA Laptop Checkpoint-Friendly Starts Yesterday!
With all the buzz about laptop bags that will pass the checkpoint faster by strageically positioning scanning portion of the laptop bag, TSA (Tranportation Security Administration) has started enforcing the new policy.
Starting on Saturday, some of the nation’s airline passengers will not have to remove their laptops at airport checkpoints.
“I’m going to feel a sense of freedom,” said Burke, CEO of Garven gift-packaging company, who makes weekly flights between his home in Denver and the company’s headquarters in Minneapolis.
Passengers who have what the Transportation Security Administration calls “checkpoint-friendly” laptop cases - so-called because X-ray machines can easily see through them - will be free to go through security without opening the case. The policy change by the TSA could speed up security lines for the 2 million people who take U.S. flights each day and reduce incidents in which laptops are damaged, lost or forgotten in airports.

NH Hotels: Headrests
NH Hotels advertisement was placed on Iberia airlines headrests. On the back of the headrests you could see illustrations enjoying the different activites offered by NH Hotels: golf, beach, sauna, etc. When people sat they would see the illustration in front of them and just above the illustration’s head you could see the hair of the person seating right in front as well, as if it were the illustration’s own set of hair.
