Hotel Puerta America!
0 Comments Published by max May 22nd, 2008 in Hotels, Travel Europe, Travel Info.
Hotel Puerta America is a thing of design and beauty. Next time you are in Madrid, Spain, book your night here.
Hotel Puerta America is a new radical design hotel in Madrid (Spain) and it was
conceived as an architectural showcase, with individual floors fitted-out by different
world-renowned architects, including Foster and Partners, Zaha Hadid, John Pawson,
and Ushida Findlay. The Foster vision for the second floor was inspired by the work
of the late Basque sculptor, Eduardo Chillida, who was a personal friend of both the
client and Lord Foster. Chillida’s work explored natural materials, organic forms, and
an architectural sense of space. The hotel has 13 floors with 30 rooms, 1200 sqm per
floor. Plasma Studio has been commissioned for the fourth floor.

MillHouse in Thira!

Wow, check out the MillHouse in Thira, a Mediterranean island.
The Mill Houses Studios & Suites is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to delve into the mysticism of Thira, without renouncing the island’s vivid life.
It is located in a picturesque alley of the Firostefani quarter that separates cosmopolitan Fira from the lofty Imerovigli.
Staying at the heart of the island’s capital, one has a chance to stroll down the winding streets or take short trips to all other sights and nearby hamlets.

Hotel Screen in Kyoto, Japan
0 Comments Published by max May 21st, 2008 in Hotels, Travel Asia, Travel Info.Heading to Kyoto, Japan? Make sure to check out the Hotel Screen as they’ve got some real funky design/traditional Japanese setup to refreshen your travel stays. (Just opened January 2008)
A striking example of modern Japanese design, Kyoto’s Screen Hotel is steps away from both the ancient temples of Termachi-dori (literally, “temple down street”) and the shops and bustling nightlife of the Sanjo and Shijo districts. Fascinating history, chic clothing and exciting cocktails are all within easy reach; there’s something, as the saying goes, for everyone.
The same can be said of Screen’s accommodations. Each of the hotel’s 13 guest rooms was individually conceived by a different artist or designer, so that no two guests will have the same experience on any given night. For those in search of a wistful dreamland, Sam Liu’s Softroom is the perfect choice; those seeking a more modern aesthetic will love Hikaru Katai’s dramatic Petit Prince Room for its monochromatic minimalism. Hotel facilities include a banquet hall, spa, chapel, open-air sky lounge and select shop, which sells, amongst other things, traditional Kyoto goods made by local craft artists as well as the Screen’s “soundtrack,” a specially-produced, hotel-inspired compilation album. At the ground-floor restaurant, guests can enjoy Kyoto nouvelle cuisine, a fusion of new French cooking and traditional Kyoto gastronomy, made with fresh, organic ingredients from local growers. And once a week, they can relax at “Candle Night” in the lounge, part of Screen’s energy-saving eco-luxe concept of respecting the environment without forsaking comfort.

Istanbul’s 7-Story Underwater Hotel to Open in 2010
0 Comments Published by max May 6th, 2008 in Hotels.
A 7 story hotel will open in Istanbul, Turkey within the next 2 years. Wow, this might start a whole thread of new underwater hotels and maybe even fork out to new underwater cities.
Visitors to Istanbul will soon have a chance to view the most spectacular ocean views on the planet. A seven floor, seven-star hotel is being built underwater on what was formerly a tobacco factory. There will be exhibition halls, and restaurants, and all rooms will be sea facing.
This isn’t the first such underwater hotel complex in the world. That honor goes to the $500 million Poseidon Hotel which is currently being built off Fiji. The Istanbul hotel differs in that it is being built under the city center, which should make for an interesting experience.

Dog Bark Inn and Other Weird Hotels…
0 Comments Published by max May 6th, 2008 in Hotels, Travel Info.
Ha, this is definitely the funniest looking hotel I’ve seen in awhile. I bet they even let you have dogs stay there.
I’m not sure what else there is to see in Cottonwood Idaho, but this place surely is tops on the list. The owners (dog lovers – can you tell?) built the world’s largest beagle to be the bed & breakfast joint for you to write home about. It’s a friendly looking dog and all, but I can’t help but be reminded of the Trojan Horse. At the very least, it brings new meaning to “sleeping in the dog house”.
