High on the list of happy Western tourists visiting Beijing are the Forbidden City, the Lama Temple, The Great Wall and the 798 Art Zone. The area is a fairly new addition to the tour. 798 is located in Dashanzi, northeast of central Beijing.

I have to agree that I’ve heard a LOT of scam stories from people who travel to China, here’s a couple that you might want to consider.

scams in China

I heard an American girl excitedly telling her tour group in Beijing’s Silk Market. Aaaah! She was ruining it for the rest of us! I wanted to tell her that she hadn’t saved 7,800 RMB with her amazing bargaining skills.

8000 RMB is the price for some faceless dumb tourist… if you let the vendor’s starting price influence your assessment of the product’s worth, you are the overpaying idiot.

Seniors' China Tour

This tour is a perfect compromise
between back packing and being bussed around with a new hotel every
night. Day Hiking, as opposed to back packing, means that each day
after breakfast, a bus takes us to the beginning of a hike, transfers
our luggage, and pick us up at the end of the hike. A hot shower
always awaits us at the next hotel. Every night we stay at a
comfortable hotel.

Here’s a typical Chinese Menu you might get in China. Just make sure you learn some Chinese characters before you go…
clipped from rahoi.com

It was a night like any other - people inviting us out to a steakhouse. We get there, we are seated in a private room. All was well. Niceties aside, we prepare to order. I ask my wife what I should get. She says, “Go ahead and look at the menu - it’s in English.”
