Here’s a good travel guide to Dubrovnik in Croatia. I’ve never been there but this could be a good read for your future travel plans.

View from the Dubrovnik city wall
When people talk about Croatian tourism what generally comes to mind is the gorgeous city of Dubrovnik, which is located on the southern coast. Dubrovnik is now one of the hot spots for tourism and for good reason, as the city is absolutely gorgeous, which is an understatement like saying Italy has decent food or the Eiffel Tower is a nice structure.
The city of Dubrovnik is spectacular itself, but the main tourist destination is inside the city walls. Inside the city walls there are gorgeous churches, many restaurants, shops, souvenir shops, and cafes. A visit to Dubrovnik is not complete without taking a walk on top of the city walls, where you can walk around the entire walled city center and have fantastic views of the coast and the lively town center. The walk takes a couple of hours, but it is something that can’t be missed and it only costs around 50 kunas, which is only 5 pounds.

Octoberfest ist Sehr Gutte!

Well, I did take German as secondary language when I was in high school (long time ago) and one of the most fun experience was Octoberfest, where we got to eat a lot of great German sausages and bread. Here’s some information on how to enjoy Octoberfest, even if you are not in Germany.

I grew up in a German neighborhood in Chicago.  When I say German neighborhood, the majority of the shops within a couple blocks of home required all of their employees to speak at least some German.

But my favorite place in the old neighborhood was Meyer Delicatessen. It was an old world German deli filled with countless types of German sausages, cold cuts and food products. After I moved from Chicago, every trip back would require a stop at Meyer’s to fill a cooler to bring home.  Just walking in the door and smelling the rich flavors that permeated the walls over the years, reminded me of my regular visits as a young child and walking in while holding my grandfather’s hand.  Sadly, it closed a couple years a go.

Traveling Green in Europe

Here’s some great tips on traveling green in Europe. I can relate to this when I used to live in South Korea, I resorted to a really slow 125cc sportsbike to get through all the traffic, it’s a good thing I am still alive though.

Seville Bicycles

Cadiz Scooters
Scooters were the preferred mode of transportation in the narrow streets of Madrid and Seville, Spain, as well as Lisbon, Portugal.  While there isn’t a helmet law, most riders sported helmets in the heavily congested city of Madrid.  The upscale city also offers an easily accessible underground and affordable subway system.  The Sunday that I visited Madrid, thousands of bicyclists swarmed the Paseo de la Castellana that had been closed to cars for the event.  I watched from my club room at the Intercontinental as the bicyclists demonstrated their solidarity in demanding bike lanes for riders.  Unfortunately, there is not much room to expand for bicycle lanes in downtown Madrid.

Here’s a fun “Fridge Stonehenge” that a company made in New Mexico, too bad it’s been removed now.

Fridgehenge; another modern take on Stonehenge exists outside of Sante Fe, New Mexico, constructed out of junked refrigerators, known as ‘Fridgehenge’. The site was created by the artist Adam Jonas Horowitz.
