Because there are so many banks and ATMs, there is no need to carry a giant wad of cash on you anyway.
Don’t accept torn or faded notes - they will be very difficult to spend later. It is common for people to try to pawn these damaged bills off on foreigners.
Keep your spending money in a wallet or bag, but put your large denomination bills into your passport belt or hide them. This will also be helpful when you are trying to negotiate a price - you don’t want to dig through 1000 Baht notes in front of a shopkeeper to find the right cash!

scams in China

I heard an American girl excitedly telling her tour group in Beijing’s Silk Market. Aaaah! She was ruining it for the rest of us! I wanted to tell her that she hadn’t saved 7,800 RMB with her amazing bargaining skills.

8000 RMB is the price for some faceless dumb tourist… if you let the vendor’s starting price influence your assessment of the product’s worth, you are the overpaying idiot.

5 Worst Hotel Scams? (or Overpriced BS)

Hotels can be very expensive, especially if you eat out of their fridge.

Here’s 5 worst hotel scams you need to watch out for and protect yourself against spending unnecessary dollars.

Since it was first introduced to hotels in 1974, the mini-bar has been confusing and tempting tourists from all corners of the world. So when all the amenities are closed and it’s well past midnight, you might be tempted to go for the mini-bar. Think twice before doing unless you want to pay 5$ for a bottle of water or 8$ for a soda. Unless you want to make the hotel a tad richer, simply say no. Go to the grocery store, pick up some water and soda and use the mini-fridge to store them.
